Dr Fay Chung
Fay has been a great supporter and friend of Naledi3d over the years.

She grew up in Zimbabwe and trained as an educator at the University of Zimbabwe and joined the Zimbabwe liberation struggle in 1973 but ended up in forced exile in Tanzania and Mozambique. Fay was appointed Minister of Education by Mugabe in 1988, where she developed and implemented a nationwide primary and secondary education program. In 1980, 5% of the black population in Zimbabwe had access to basic education; by 1993, Zimbabwe had achieved a 95% primary education rate.

She resigned after disagreeing with the government in 1993 and went on to establish the Education Cluster at UNICEF before returning to Africa in 1998, where she established UNESCO’s International Institute for Capacity Building in Africa (IICBA) in Ethiopia.

Fay retired to Zimbabwe in 2003 but has continued to be outspoken on Zimbabwean politics, has stood for parliament, and was a founder of FAWE (Forum for African Women Educationalists) as well as the Chairperson of the board of Trustees of the Women’s University in Africa which she helped co-found in 2003.
